Woman Working At Dept. of Social Services in Rapid City Leaves Her Kids In Car While She is at Work

“Tells Concerned Citizens to go Fu*k Themselves”

6 – 12 – 15 Sioux Falls, SD By Devin Saxon. Last Tuesday, a concerned citizen in Rapid City informed an attendant at the front desk of the Department of Social Services that a Pontiac in the 85 degree heat was parked in the DSS’s own parking lot with two small children occupying it, and no parent in the area. What happened next was astounding, the front desk attendant then called an EMPLOYEE working at DSS to inform her to move her children out of the car in the parking lot. Upon seeing that it was an employee at DSS who had left their kids in the car ALONE under the hot sun, the concerned citizen then questioned the employee,”EXCUSE ME you leave your kids in that car by themselves?” To which the Employee responded, “the oldest is 9,” and that the concerned citizen should, “go fuck yourself because I WORK HERE.”

UPDATE: According to an anonymous source who, “happens to know who the person this is about,” the mother was inside the Department of Social Services building in Rapid City for, “four minutes,” and that she was present at work, “to sign a time-card.” This anonymous individual claims that the children had a cell-phone to ward off any danger, and says the mother was not swearing although he/she does admit that a third witness was present at the scene. This third witness at the scene corroborates Megan’s version of events claiming, “I know who posted this story to begin with and I was there when it happened and yes the story is true.”

There are currently no laws in South Dakota regarding whether or not it is legal to leave children unattended in cars, however our good friends in Bismark, North Dakota recently ran a story on similar events and this is what they have to say…

Here is a case out of Pennsylvania also involving a 9-year-old left alone in a running vehicle…

According to KidsAndCars.com, “Stories about kids and cars have a tendency to end badly.  Each year hundreds of children are hospitalized or even killed after accidentally setting a car into motion.”

So what does South Dakota think? Should children be allowed to be left alone in a car or not?

    • it is so disappointing to see how stupid these people are at dss and the lady in question is part of the child protective service part of dss and the thing that pissis me off if the fact if a cop would have seen this with anyone else cps would be there taking the kids away from there family’s but if you work for cps you can get away with murder they have ben known even by judges as lying on the stand i have personally seen them put kids in there cars that are barly old enuff to start putting them in a buster seat and they just put them in the back seat with a lap belt on and that’s it no car seat these people need to live better then the law if they are going to reinforce the law but in fake they don’t they are all about the 60,000 that the state gets for every kid they take awt of the home this state ranks number 1 in the united stats for taking kids from there family’s ‘legal kidnapping ‘ so to anyone that ses this is no big deal know now that if this was you they would be taken from you and if its them they tell you to fuck off and nothing happens

    • Many are questioning if the facts were checked and etc. In the future, it is best to just call the police if you see kids left in the car. Then there will be an official report with plenty of fact checking an names of all involved. stick around to provide a statement to the officers and then let the law take over.

    • I happen to know the person this is about. She left the car running and ran in to sign her timecard. She gave her oldest, who is almost 10 years old, her cellphone and was gone for FOUR MINUTES. She came back to find strangers staring into the car and making her children cry. She denies telling these individuals to go fuck themselves, but in her situation, I would do much more than that. Whoever wrote this should be ashamed. Try gathering facts before writing something like this. Dakotaz, with a z? For real? No wonder you aren’t writing for a real paper you talentless hack.

Anyway it is not the attack on the mother that bothers me it is the fact the children were alone at the DSS office parking lot. In Sioux Falls there are some pretty unsavory people that hang down by the DSS office. It only takes seconds for a creep to break a window steal a kid and be gone. I could care less what happens to the mother it is the children that worry me. They were crying because strangers were looking into the car? Wake up they were scared something bad might happen to them and mom was in the building, to a child time goes slowly 5 minutes is like an hour. It is the mothers fault for the children being scared like that, they should have never been left alone. A nine year old can end up dead protecting a younger sibling that is the fact of the world we lie in today it happens all over the world lady. defend your friend but really think about the kids and think about them what would you as a friend have down if it was not friendly strangers but someone out to do harm, broke the window and grabbed the children and disappeared? then hat would you have said to the mother?

      • And yet if this was just a regular person who didn’t work for the state they would have had their children taken away, or at the very least been investigated. A cell phone is not a deterrent for a criminal to either take your kids or steal your car. It only takes a minute for someone to kidnap your child. She should be fired and she should be treated as anyone else would have in that situation. Also, nice language to use at someone who was trying to help two children.

      • WOW. There was NO ONE AROUND MAKING HER KIDS CRY and yeah, THE DSS WORKER TOLD ME TO GO FUCK MYSELF. They were alone for more than just 4minutes. I watched the clock, debating of i should go back in to tell someone or not, was inside! Your friend handled the situation poorly. Using foul language to a costomer at a place of work, leaving her kids alone/out of sight in a running car, and not taking time to resolve the situation or clear up a misunderstanding. I stand by my story, IVE got nothing to hide. -Megan R

  1. Just wondering why the ones that are suppose to serve and protect us and our children are a so ignorant of the laws. Us as citizens have to abide by those laws and what does that mean for those that do not? I know too many people that have had been abused y these same laws and get hammered on in the public and the ones that do the hammering think it is ok to break the very same laws.

  2. So the car was running, was the air conditioner??? Did the kids have the doors locked, did the kids have cell phones??? My child has had a cell phone for 3 years and she is 11 if she don’t want to go in the store or building with me she doesn’t have to. I leave the car running and the air conditioner on and tell her to let me know if she changes her mind. Obviously not all kids are brought up to be responsible for their actions, but those that are can handle themselves better than some of the adults–that think they are better parents than everybody else is. Reminds me of the new laws everyone is passing because people can’t think for themselves, ie kids can’t play in their yard or go to the park by themselves at 8 or 9 years of age.

    • Can’t really like or dislike your comment because some of it I agree with, the other, definitely not. Bottom line, leaving children in a running car is dangerous, period. Leaving them in the heat, AC or not, is inexcusable. Leaving them outside while you work an 8 hour day, unconscionable!

    • I agree with you 100% on every word, however how many children would be taken by CPS, or by this same SW for doing the same thing? There in lies the irony, or hypocrisy.

      • How do you know she was there to work a full 8 hour day? How do you know she wasn’t there for 2 minutes to pick something up or drop something off?

      • The person in question was not at work. She stopped in for under 5 minutes, the doors were locked, AC was on. This is not illegal in sd or any other state. The person who posted this seems like a big troublemaker to me.

        • how long does it take for a thug to break a window, jump into the drivers seat, take off with the kids? Nice of mom to leave a get away car for them. Wake up this is 2017 things like this happen all the time; child abduction. Predators watch for this sort of scene aero they dream of it, they get excited over it. It happens. And it can happen to this lady that is the reality of this case of leaving a defenseless child with another child in a running car.

  3. This isn’t journalism, it’s gossip! Where is the fact checking? How do you know this incident even happened at all? Have you contacted DSS to follow up or get their side of the story or is this just more witch hunt sensationalism? IF this is true, they should be prosecuted but first a responsible journalist would get the whole story before spreading what could be lies about someone.

  6. Those kids could have got bored, jumped in the front seat accidently put the car in gear while playing and could have hurt themselves or others. Who knows what could have happened but she should have least thought that one over better as people do make mistakes but sometimes mistakes cost you when not thought over. Especially when it could have been prevented by just bringing them inside with her. I do in fact know there are a lot of people that are serving or helping others that are very rude and should have choose a better career choice if they can not contain their attitudes specially at their place of employment. You should be open minded and willing to listen and be thankful someone else is also looking out for your children even if you do not agree.

  7. So, this girl’s fb is stupid easy to find. Obviously public, two posts, 3 pictures and no friends. Either you need to do a much, much better job of checking your sources or you set this up to make a news story. I am all for free press but jumping on a story because it appears to “prove” something is ridiculous and to those that read a random article and assume it’s truth, need to do a little more research before you jump to conclusions.

  9. The person you are all shaming was in DSS for 4 minutes signing a piece of paper as she was not working that day due to a death in the family. The AC was on, doors were locked, and cell phone was with the children who are nearly 10 and 7. The person never cussed at the citizen, but certainly was cussed at. The worker had her kids in a running car for more than just 4 minutes, I watched the clock as i sat in my own car debating if i should do something or not. Yeah, she did in fact tell me to go fuck myself. NO i never cussed at her. My facebook page is set to private; but dont worry im a real person. Im not buying the whole “i left my cell phone with them” that a “friend” stated.
